PRIVATE GUIDED DAY TRIP - Easy - Buoux & Luberon

PRIVATE GUIDED DAY TRIP - Easy - Buoux & Luberon

135

We take a centuries-old cobbled mule track through a forest of white oak, and we quickly rise above the gorge below. We continue atop the scenic ridges, laden with aromatic herbs such as thyme and winter savory.

We reach the village of Sivergues , just a handful of homes huddled together and lost in the far reaches of the Luberon mountains. After a leisurely Provençal picnic we return to the depths of the Aiguebrun gorge. The vegetation is lush: boxwood grows as tall as trees and giant ivy, with its roots set in the canyon, climb the majestic limestone walls in search of the light.

We return to the Auberge des Seguins before embarking on an optional visit of the 3000 year-old Buoux Fort, witness to the passing of several different civilizations that sought refuge atop a perilous, rocky crag.

  • LOOP walk - 3h (4.2miles)

  • 9am : meet your guide at the Auberge des Seguins BB in Buoux

  • The Auberge des Seguins – a former 17th century goat farm – sits hidden at the base of the Aiguebrun cliffs, as remote as you can get in the Luberon hills. We take a centuries-old cobbled mule track through a forest of white oak, and we quickly rise above the gorge below. On a seldom used path we pass a remote farm and continue atop the scenic ridges, laden with aromatic herbs such as thyme and winter savory.

Soon the tiny village of Sivergues appears, just a handful of homes huddled together and lost in the far reaches of the Luberon mountains (during the Wars of Religion the village was spared as it wasn’t even found). After a leisurely Provençal picnic and a drink from the local spring water we return to the depths of the Aiguebrun gorge, traversing abandoned stone terraces.

We take a path following the river, the only permanent water of the Luberon Mountains. The vegetation is lush and tall, in stark contrast to the low brush that covers most of the region: boxwood grows as tall as trees and giant ivy, with its roots set in the canyon, climb the majestic limestone walls in search of the light.

We return to the Auberge des Seguins before embarking on an optional visit of the 3000 year-old Fort de Buoux -- entrance fee included.  Set atop a plateau that hangs perilously above the canyon, the fort remains a witness to the passing of several different civilizations that sought refuge here.

  • Optional extra walk : Fort de Buoux - Extra 2 hours (from Les Seguins)- +150m/-150m
  • 5pm : End of your walking day in Buoux (including the optional 2-hour tour of Fort de Buoux)

    - Your picnic or restaurant (cold platter served at the Auberge des Seguins)
