PRIVATE GUIDED DAY TRIP - Challenging - Mont Ventoux hike

PRIVATE GUIDED DAY TRIP - Challenging - Mont Ventoux hike

139

This is without a doubt the most spectacular hike in Provence -- at least in our books -- hiking the Mont Ventoux.

With your expert guide you’ll begin with gentle zigzags through the forest, and then above the tree-line on the bare rock: looking out towards the entire chain of the Alps, including Mont Blanc.

We reach the summit of the Mont Ventoux where to the south the entire Rhône Valley is visible – and depending on visibility – the Mediterranean Sea is in view. We then loop back to Mont Serein via a set of imposing rockslide formations. Though not dangerous, these otherworldly sections are not suitable for those who are subject to fear of heights.

  • Departure: 9AM  at the Mont Serein resort - Camping
  • Return: around 5PM at the Mont Serein resort - Camping

  • 9am : meet your guide at the Mont Serein campground

  • From the quaint forest of Mont Serein and up the untamed northern slopes of Mont Ventoux to the very summit, this is without a doubt the most spectacular hike in Provence: at least in our books.

With your expert guide you’ll begin with gentle zigzags through the forest, in the shade of spruce and fir. Soon they give way to larch, which then gets sparser, and then some mountain pine, and then no trees at all: above the tree-line on the bare rock, looking out towards the north with the entire chain of the Alps in view, including Mont Blanc. In the summer months the wild goats (chamois) grace the abrupt slopes, while colorful Alpine and even Arctic flowers grow nestled in the scree.

We reach the summit where to the south the entire Rhône Valley is at your feet – and depending on visibility – the Mediterranean Sea is in view. We descend the rocky crest laden with tufts of juniper and with continuous panoramic views. We then loop back to Mont Serein via a set of imposing rockslide formations. Though not dangerous, these otherworldly sections are not suitable for those who are subject to fear of heights.

  • 5pm : End of your walking day Mont Serein campground
