Mont-Ventoux: self-guided walking holidays

6 trips

The height of Mont Ventoux is 1912m (6300 feet), perched high above Provence. There is a veritable spiderweb of hiking trails that lace all of the mountain’s hollows and crests, creating an endless possibility of walking itineraries.
Towards the summit, it is a great walking trip along seldom-used Provence hiking trails, moving from Mediterranean vegetation to arctic flowers in 2 days of walking.
The foot of Mont Ventoux harbors hilltop villages, and is laden with orchards of all kinds. On a Mont Ventoux tour, you’ll discover the famous wine villages – such as Gigondas, Seguret, Vacqueyras – , breathtaking canyon roads, and perched villages far off the tourist radar.

Good to know about  mont-ventoux

At 1912m in altitude, Mont Ventoux is Provence’s highest peak, and the highest point in the interior of France outside the Alps and the Pyrenees. From the Mont Ventoux summit, its 360 degrees panorama, made clear by the howling Mistral wind, is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

If you look south of Mont Ventoux on a map of Provence, you see the Cotes du Rhone vine-covered plains. To the north, the entire chain of the snow-peaked French Alps, including Mont Blanc.

On a walking tour in Provence, you hike along beautiful mountain paths, and have an authentic chalet experience in Provence, cool mountain air and jaw-dropping scenery. From its base laden with Mediterranean vegetation, to its summit sprinkled with Alpine flowers, Mont Ventoux offers a great diversity of flora and fauna. Its slopes are covered with dozens of exceptional walking trails.

On the northern slopes of Ventoux, deep in the Toulourenc valley, you can visit tiny villages and perched Romanesque chapels, all far from the main tourist areas. With extraordinary panoramas and a great diversity of landscapes along the way .. up to the very roof of Provence !
