PRIVATE GUIDED CYCLING DAY TRIP - Moderate - St Remy to Les Baux

PRIVATE GUIDED CYCLING DAY TRIP - Moderate - St Remy to Les Baux

180

We begin our ride in the fabled town of Saint Rémy de Provence, renowned for its most famous visitor: Vincent Van Gogh. We cycle along the base of the Alpilles mountains, at the juncture where the chiseled limestone cliffs meet the vast olive groves that carped the plains.

Rounding the mountain counter-clockwise, we pass the sleepy villages of Saint Etienne and Fontvieille and enjoy an olive oil tasting on the way.  We then  reach the village of Maussane, surrounded by its silvery olive trees. From here we take seldom-used roads as we begin a climb through the heart of the Alpilles Mountains, reaching the perched medieval village of Les Baux de Provence, for breathtaking views.

After a visit and lunch, we stop at for a wine tasting in a small family-run wine estate, before returning to Saint Rémy, completing our loop.

guided cycling holidays

  • LOOP ride: St Remy > Les Baux de Provence > Maussane > St Remy (26miles)
  • 9am : meet your guide at the bike shop in St Remy
  • Wednesday & Saturday are the BIG morning market days in St Remy ! Make sure to enjoy its great ambiance before you meet your guide and start your day !

  • We begin our ride in the fabled town of Saint Rémy de Provence, renowned for its most famous visitor: Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh spent the last year of his life in Saint Rémy, tirelessly painting the countryside, and completing some of his most important works. Beyond Saint Rémy, we cycle along the base of the Alpilles mountains, where the chiseled limestone cliffs meet the vast olive groves that carped the plains. We enjoy a tasting of some of the region’s most coveted olive oils (this is the largest olive-oil producing region in France).

Rounding the Alpilles mountains counter-clockwise, we pass the sleepy villages of Saint Etienne and Fontvieille, whose open square is inviting for a café stop.  Nestled at the southern foot of the Alpilles mountains is the village of Maussane, surrounded by its silvery olive trees. From here we take seldom-used roads as we begin a steady climb through the heart of the Alpilles Mountains.

Our efforts are rewarded as we reach the perched medieval village of Les Baux de Provence, listed among the most beautiful villages in France.  We take the time to visit the village.
We highly recommend the optional visit (not included ) of anotherwordly experience at the Carrieres de lumiere, former rock quarry.

We enjoy a leisurely lunch before the real fun begins: if your legs are strong enough, we’ll lead you to a local summit for the best 360° view of the region before an exhilarating descent back to the plains. Wine tasting in a small family-run wine estate before cycling back to Saint Rémy.
