PRIVATE GUIDED CYCLING DAY TRIP - Challenging - Mont Ventoux climb

PRIVATE GUIDED CYCLING DAY TRIP - Challenging - Mont Ventoux climb

180

Today you are climbing the giant of Provence, the "Everest" of every cyclist : the Mont Ventoux. 21 km of climbing and a vertical mile of altitude gain.
Have a look at our page dedicated to the Mont Ventoux.

It's on the top of every amateur cyclist's bucket list: Ventoux. Touted as one of the most difficult climb in France, the scenery is as grandiose and the biking is tough.

Our guide leads you through the cherry orchards: a gradual section before the real climbing begins. Through a forest of cedar and then beech, a relentless section of 10km at almost 10% grade will ensure that you’re using the easiest gear on your bike. The forested section ends abruptly at the Chalet Reynard, where the famous lunar moonscape begins. The iconic tower that sits defiantly at the summit is only 6km farther, but it never seems to get closer as you continue upwards to the summit. Panoramic view on the whole Provence and on the Alps mountains at the top !

Two possible descent options:
- via Malaucène
- via the spectacular Nesque Gorge.

  • It's on the top of every amateur cyclist's bucket list and often touted as the most difficult climb you can do on a bike in France. 21km of climbing and a vertical mile in the sky: MontVentoux. It’s been made famous in the Tour de France and now it’s your turn to experience France’s most notorious climb, from the more coveted south face (Bedoin).

The scenery is as grandiose and the biking is tough. Our guide will lead you through the cherry orchards: a gradual section to warm your legs. After a hair-pin turn the road enters the forest and the real climbing begins. Through cedar and then beech, a relentless section of 10km at almost 10% grade will ensure that you’re using the easiest gear on your bike. We’ll help you set your pace, and stay focused and confident on your bike.

The forested section ends suddenly at the Chalet Reynard, where the famous lunar moonscape begins. The grade is less severe but the winds can howl. The entire Rhône valley is spread out before your eyes. The iconic tower that sits defiantly at the summit is only 6km farther, but it never seems to get closer as you continue upwards to the summit.

From the top the entire chain of the Alps is visible to the north, and the Mediterranean Sea is often visible to the south. We enjoy lunch at the summit (or back down in the plains, depending on our pace).

    Two possible descent options:
    - a roaring descent via Malaucène
    - or the spectacular Nesque Gorge: a canyon road that winds through tunnels carved into the sheer limestone cliffs.

  • 5pm : End of your guided day in Bedoin

  • THE RIDE
Mont Ventoux is arguably the toughest thing you can do on a bike in France.
It's only suitable for those who are fit, and used to sustained high-intensity cardio exercise, lasting several hour sat a time, and preferably cycling experience on very hilly terrain.
We strongly recommend using E-bikes to make the riding more accessible to less experienced riders (with a supplement)
