Gigondas - Vacqueyras
The Dentelles de Montmirail region catch the eye because of their limestone cliffs and their crenalated needles. A range of peaks rises in the sky and offers great views while the lower part has been carved by the hands of men into terrain suitable for vineyards.
Set hillside at the foot this mountain, a few picturesque villages follow the wine season to produce some excellent well-known wines of the Rhone valley.
The village of Gigondas is beautiful to walk through, especially the labyrinth of tiny streets leading up to the church. Above the church, you will notice several monumental works of contemporary art, juxtaposing the 14th century ramparts in ruins…
Today, Gigondas & Vacqueyras are famous for its renowned red wine, second only to Chateauneuf du Pape in the region. But it wasn’t always so: it has only been 40 years that vine growing has become monoculture in Gigondas.
