Bedoin, a beautiful village at the foot of the Mt Ventoux
Bedoin: the start of your hiking and cycling climb of the Mont ventoux!
Where is Bedoin and why is famous?
Bedoin, a small Provencal village located in the North of the Vaucluse department, is a very famous village for hikers and especially bike enthusiasts! Situated at the foot of the giant of Provence, the famous Mont Ventoux, is the start for going up to the top of this mountain, known for being one of the hardest stages of the Tour de France thanks to its 1610 metres of ascension over 21.5km, an average slope of 7.5%!
Mont Ventoux wines
This picturesque village is perched on a small hill, the saint Antonin hill, with at its top the Church Saint Pierre. Its name comes from the German words “Bett-Wein” which stands for “Wine bed”, symbolizing the many vineyards that were and still are visible around the village. The Cote du Ventoux wine is produced in this area with Bedoin as its “capital”: when entering the city, you will have the chance to see a sign with all the vineyards of the area.
Even if the city is located at the foot of the Mont Ventoux, Bedoin’s territory stops at the top of the Mont Ventoux! This great communal area is separated in two distinct parts: one for the village (1/3) and the remaining 2/3 as part of the biggest municipal forest in France: the area is 63km2!. The untouched and protected natural environment, both animal and vegetal, make this area a wonderful place to discover by foot or by bike.
