For your PRIVATIZED GROUP of 4 to 8 people !

The tiny village of Méthamis, hidden even from seasoned travelers, sits perilously atop its rocky perch, like an eagle's nest, overhanging the canyon below. And at the very top of that tiny village, tucked away in the stone walls of a centuries-old home, is the METAFORT: probably the most stunning B&B in Provence.

We invite you and your group to stay here, in this jaw-dropping setting, with its courtyard and infinity pool giving way to a sheer cliff that tumbles into the Nesque Gorge.
The inside isn't any less spectacular: the rooms are sumptuous, stylish yet simple, complete with jacuzzis; the common room/kitchen/dining room is ultra-modern, cozy, and spacious. And from pretty much anywhere the views of the surrounding hills and plains are outstanding.

And to top it all off, Isabelle and Philippe -- the owners and hosts -- are two of the most warm, generous, and helpful people we've ever met.

We've concocted a week's worth of stunning guided walks in the region -- and one day of E-biking! --  all of which are entirely customizable to suit the interests and fitness level of your group. And when the walking day is complete, we'll all be giddy about returning to our hidden paradise, le Métafort.

    Perched Venasque to Métafort

    • Walk Vénasque > Méthamis (2h30 - 6 miles)
    • In the morning after a delicious breakfast at our BB, we transfer to the village of Vénasque, perched in the Monts du Vaucluse range, surrounded by its cherry orchards, and listed among the most beautiful villages in France. After visiting the village, we head out through the cherry orchards on scenic paths. With Mont Ventoux as a backdrop we head eastward, alternating farming tracks and walking paths, overlooking the orchards that blanket the plains. We'll enjoy a gourmet Provençal picnic in the countryside. Soon the village of Méthamis appears, perched high above the Nesque Gorge, its medieval homes bunched together in tight formation on a rocky crag. We wind up the streets to the very top, where we find the Métafort through its unassuming entrance, our home for the next 5 nights.
    • Our gracious host Isabelle will be cooking dinner for us this evening in our BB to help us feel all the more at home.

    Day 3

      • Distance :
      • 10 km
      • Elevation :
      • + 350m
        - 350m

    Gordes and Sénanque Abbey

    • A loop walk Gordes > Senanque abbey > Gordes (3h30 - 6 miles)
    • We transfer to the village of Gordes, its homes rising high above the Calavon Valley, and possibly the most stunning village in the Luberon mountains. After time to meander through the cobbled streets, and pick up our picnic fare at the weekly market, we hit the trails. Out of all the stone-crazed villages in the region Gordes is possibly the most obsessed. It is said that there are 6000 tons of built stonework per person in the village: indeed, our walking paths are lined with old stone walls, we'll pass old stone homes, and find hidden centuries-old dry-stone huts in abandoned fields. The sun-drenched hills are blanketed with thyme, winter savory, and lavender plantations. The trails lead us straight to Sénanque Abbey, a 12th century monastery lost in the  valley, and framed by its lavender field. We return to Gordes by foot, on a scenic trail that rises above the medieval buildings of the monastery.
    • We have dinner together in nearby restaurant before settling in for the night.

    Day 4

      • Distance :
      • 12 km
      • Elevation :
      • + 500m
        - 500m

    Walk around metafort

    • Loop walk Méthamis > Nesque gorges > Methamis (3h30  - 7 miles)
    • Starting from our BB by foot, we enter the heart of the Nesque Gorge, the limestone canyon walls soaring above the valley. A short climb leads above the canyon, through a picturesque oak forest, on paths very few locals know about, let alone tourists. We reach a scenic crestline where views open of the valley, laden with orchards and vines, while the ever-present summit of Ventoux looms in the distance. Crossing the plains we reach the hilltop village of Blauvac, just a handful of homes grouped atop an isolated hill. We return to Méthamis through farming tracks and country roads, in the heart of the Ventoux vines.
    • After a restful dip in the pool, we're in for a treat this evening: a special wine and cheese feast at our B&B, including cheeses from an award-winning shop in the nearby town of Carpentras. It's said that in France there's a cheese for every day of the year: although we may not try all of them, we'll have a great sample of some of the best that the country has to offer -- and with some great wines, too...

    Day 5

      • Distance :
      • 65 km
      • Elevation :
      • + 600m
        - 600m

    E-biking through the Nesque Gorge

    • E-biking loop ride Méthamis > Nesque Gorge > Methamis (40 miles E-biking).
    • With our handy E-bikes delivered at our front door, we leave our B&B on two wheels. On a seldom-used country road we wind upwards through the mountains, the pedalling made a breeze by the electric assistance. Reaching the plateau we trade vines for lavender fields. Above those lavender fields is the perched village of Sault, surrounded by a sea of purple flowers. After time to visit the village we head into the Nesque valley, and have lunch in the tiny village of Monieux. After lunch the fun begins; we climb ever-so-slightly to a lookout high above the gorge, before descending what is probably the most breathtaking cycling route in the whole region: the narrow road sits on a shelf high above the gorge, winding down gradually for 20km, through tunnels carved right into the limestone, with plummeting views of the canyon floor.
    • Back in the valley we go to a winery for a tasting of some of the local Ventoux vintages, and return to Méthamis on a country lane.
    • We enjoy dinner together in a local restaurant this evening.

    Day 6

      • Distance :
      • 15 km
      • Elevation :
      • + 600m
        - 600m

    Famous Mont Ventoux

    • A loop walk to the summit of Mont Ventoux (5h - 9 miles)
    • We transfer to the high slopes of Mont Ventoux to begin our hike. Leisurely zigzags on a beautiful path lead us upwards. We trade fir and beech for larch, and then a little higher only sparse mountain pine remain, and finally nothing at all: just the echo of our feet walking on the scree -- Ventoux's famous "moonscape". A final push takes us to the 1912m summit, the highest point in Provence. Once at the top we'll have a 360° view, Alps to the north and the plains of the Rhône and even the Sea to the south. Once we’ve soaked in the ambiance of the summit, of its café, its endless stream of cyclists exhausted but having reached their goal, we head eastward along the barren ridge. The upper ridge is carpeted with sparse bunches of Alpine and even Arctic flowers, while wild chamois show off their agility along the rocky slopes.
    • Back in Méthamis we'll enjoy a farewell dinner together in a local restaurant before our final night.
