  • The Luberon is home to the world's largest natural ocher deposit: creating a rainbow of colourful sands, from pale yellows to deep reds and even purples.  We devote our day to explore three ocher-clad sites in the Luberon. First is the "Colorado Provençal", by far the most majestic and otherworldly.  We enjoy lunch at an authentic bistro in the sleepy village of Rustrel, away from the tourist crowds. In the afternoon, we explore the astonishing Bruoux mines, created in 1848 to quarry the precious ocher soils. After a rest and swim at the hotel pool, we take a short transfer to the jaw-dropping-ocher-painted village of Roussillon for sunset and dinner. Dinner included in Roussillon and night in Joucas.

Our paths lead us to the village of Bonnieux, centre-stage in Peter Mayle's "A Year in Provence", offering stunning views of the valley below.
