Pernes les Fontaines
At the foothills of the Monts du Vaucluse, Pernes-les-Fontaines is a charming medieval fortified town with remaining fortifications from the 16th century.
The "Pearl of the Comptat" has more than the the several defensive gates dating to the 14th and 16th centuries and the 40 old stone fountains sprinkled around the town (hence the name of the town).
The town is fairly large, with a well defined Medieval center and has close to 17th century mansions and many French historical monuments, including churches and the clock tower.
This town is also popular for the Saturday morning market, and the annual street-theater festival ( the 1st week end of August ) that fills the streets with life.
