Cooking and cycling in the Côtes du Rhône
|
Cooking classes and cycling: Arrive via Avignon and enjoy one of Provence’s most beautiful cities. From Avignon ride off into the countryside along the Rhône River before heading into wine country and the village of Tavel for 4 nights of relaxation and cooking!
Tavel, 100 % rosé wines (they don’t produce white or red) that are on all French 3 star restaurants’ wine menus…Here you’ll enjoy a mixture of cooking with the B&B owner, biking through some of the area’s most beautiful countryside including the Pont du Gard (with your picnic prepared by you in class) and Chateauneuf-du-Pape or just plain relaxing in the garden with a good book and a glass of wine… |

| Day 1 : Welcome in Avignon
Avignon
Start your Provence cycling adventure in the heart of Avignon. From the “Palais des Papes” to the “Pont d’Avignon”, to the 14th century ramparts, and through a labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets, take a stroll through history. Dinner on your own. B&B within the old walled city.
Day 2 : Tavel Vineyards
Avignon>Tavel
- About 20km cycling -
Today's warm-up bike ride takes you along seldom-used roads on Barthelasse Island, alongside fruit orchards and old farmhouses. As you reach Tavel the landscapes are blanketed by the region's famed vineyards, its grapes bottled as France's best rosé wines. Get installed in your B&B for the next 4 nights. Enjoy a first dinner at your B&B, a nice introduction to your hosts, Christine and Erik.
Day 3 : Homemade picnic around Chateauneuf du Pape
Tavel>Chateauneuf du Pape>Tavel>
- About 40km cycling -
After a morning cooking class to prepare your picnic lunch, you cycle towards the famed vines of Chateauneuf du Pape, set around the village that carries the same name. Take the time to visit the old cobbled streets of the village and up to the ruins of the castle, proudly overlooking the mighty Rhône river. The reds here are powerful and full of flavour, and you can enjoy a bottle (or two?) by the edge of the Rhône River, accompanied by your gourmet picnic lunch. Cycle back to Tavel on scenic country roads. Dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 4 : Wine time and cooking class
Your cycling adventure continues with... the day off!! Take the time to discover Tavel’s many wine cellars, and become experts of the local rosés. Take the time to walk through the village and explore the local countryside. And perhaps grab a bottle before this afternoon’s cooking class? Dinner at your B&B.
Day 5 : Loop to the Pont du Gard
Tavel>Pont du Gard>Tavel
- About 50km cycling -
Today's cycling day is the longest but very rewarding. First you visit the perched village of Castillon du Gard and its narrow cobbled streets. Shortly after you bike to the Pont du Gard, the Roman Empire's largest bridge, at 50m high, spanning majestically over the Gardon river. Enjoy a lengthy picnic lunch at the banks of the river before cycling back to Tavel via several tiny villages on small roads. Dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 6 : Back to Avignon
Your Provence cycling (and eating!) adventure ends after breakfast. You are transferred back to Avignon (15km, 20mn). Au revoir in Avignon!
